Maintenance

The temperatures are rising, maybe the school holidays have already begun. Good enough reason to start readying your pool for the season! Unfortunately, swimming pools contain a lot of bacteria. In addition to dirty pool water being unclean, it’s not good for your health either. Here are some tips to help you to keep your pool clean for as long as possible.

1. Rinse off before swimming

It might sound obvious and logical, but a lot of people forget to do it. If you get into the pool without rinsing off first, a great deal of bacteria can enter the water – sweat, perfume, soap, deodorant, make-up – and make the water milky. It only takes a moment to rinse off before getting in.

2. Put a foot wash in front of your pool

Before entering the pool, step into a foot wash. It’s a simple but effective way to keep dirt out of your pool.

3. Use a filter pump

In larger pools, a filter pump is essential. A filter pump provides circulation and filters (most of) the dirt particles from the water.

4. Check pH level and use chemicals

To make sure that you have crystal-clear water, you should regularly add disinfectants to your pool – these include chlorine products, anti-algae products and/or flocculants. For disinfectants to work effectively, it’s important that your pH level is between 7.2 and 7.6. You can measure the pH level with test strips. Make sure to keep chemicals away from children at all times!

5. Remove floating dirt

See dirt floating in the pool? You should be able to remove it easily with a scoop net. Perhaps you even have a swimming pool robot or vacuum cleaner?

6. Cover your pool after use

A cover for your pool has many benefits. It not only helps to keep insects and dirt out of your pool, but also helps the pool to retain heat. A simple but very effective approach.
